Typing Mode.

Function Type: Behavioral

Default Option: Automatic, appears only when a Text Field is activated for editing.

Description:This Rotor function changes the gesture used to type a letter, number, or special character into a text field.

Available Modes:

Mode. Function.
Standard Typing . In this mode an Activate gesture is required to type each letter, punctuation mark or special character.
Touch Typing. In this mode the Explore gesture is used to find the character to be typed. The character is typed when the exploring finger is lifted from the display.
Direct Touch Typing. This mode turns VoiceOver off when you press the typewriter keys, so that using the typewriter keyboard is the same as it is for a sighted person. VoiceOverEasy.net recommends this mode for only experienced keyboard users. VoiceOver still remains on and functional for all other areas of the display.

Adding Functions to the Rotor.

Follow these steps to add the TypingMode function to the rotor.

  1. Launch the Settings Application from theHome Screen.
  2. Pressthe "General"button, which is located in the Settings main menu.
  3. Press the "Accessibility" options button.
  4. Press the "VoiceOver" options button.
  5. Press the "Rotor" options button.
  6. Locate the TypingMode function.
  7. As youExploreover each option, Voiceover will say, "Selected," before some, but not others. When Voiceover says "Selected," it means that the option will appear on the Rotor.

    If you use theNext and Previous Item gestures you will hear the item first, but if you do another next Item gesture, Voiceover will say, "Reorder," followed by the Item Name. This button allows you to use theDrag Gestureto change the order of the item in the list.

  8. If Voiceover didn't say, "Selected," use theSelect gestureto add the TypingMode function to the rotor.
